Zeffirelli's, Ambleside

Zeffs presents the latest films on national release, and occasionally hosts Premieres for the Film Industry. Two screen cinema, one larger, one smaller. If you want to eat there as well, the "Zeffirelli's meal deal" gives you a meal and reserved seats for the cinema (booking essential, drink extra). Ring 015394 33845 (live) or 31771 (recorded) or see the programme for 2-3 weeks ahead at www.zeffirellis.com

Roxy Cinema, Ulverston

Our local 1930's art deco cinema is fairly unique in still having its huge screen (the largest in Cumbria). It now has new projection and sound equipment. It needs supporting if we are to keep it. Ring 582340 or visit www.roxyulverston.co.uk

Duke's Cinema, Lancaster

Large screen, good atmosphere and bar. Two films per day - except when they give the place over to theatre. Good range of films - classic and current, and those difficult to find elsewhere. The programme gives film times and dates for 2-3 months, and reviews, so you can plan ahead. It's worth being on the mailing list to get the programme, because the website only lists the film titles. It's in Moor Lane, down from the town hall square. Ring 01524 598500 or visit www.dukes-lancaster.org

Brewery Cinema, Kendal

Three screen cinema within the arts complex. Bars; dinner and cinema is possible with reserved seats in the cinema, but book in advance. The printed programme does not include dates or times, but the website does, and gives links to promotional information on the films. Ring 01539 725133 or visit www.breweryarts.co.uk

Royalty Cinema, Bowness

Three screens (larger, smaller and "intimate") showing mainly US current releases. The website lists films and times for the next week only, with links to promotional information on each film. Ring 015394 43364 or visit www.nm-cinemas.co.uk

Apollo Cinema, Barrow

Barrow's (and Morecambe's) multi-screen, giving a choice of mainly US films. Not very large screens, often overheated rooms, and more expensive than elsewhere. The website lists films and times for the next week only, with links to promotional information on each film. Ring 825354 or visit www.apollocinemas.co.uk
